In the Department of Computer Science

of the ICB (Institute for Computer Science and Business Information Systems) at Campus Essen, we investigate areas within applied computer science. Software and network engineering is the main focus of research and teaching. Research groups of our department have joined with other groups of the Ruhr universities to form the software technology research institute paluno. Together with other departments of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics, we explore the foundations of a digital economy.

Study Programs

In our Bachelor's and teaching degrees, we cover the foundations of computer science and discuss these in the light of relevant applications and current trends. The project-oriented Master's program in applied computer science focuses on latest research results and applying them in software development projects.

Informatik - auch für Frauen eine gute Idee!

Im April 2020 ist die neuste Ausgabe der missING erschienen. Die missING ist ein Studienhandbuch, das junge Frauen bei der Berufswahl unterstützen soll - insbesondere in Mathematik, Informatik, Naturwissenschaften und Technik, eben den MINT-Fächern. Auch wir sind sehr bestrebt, junge Frauen für die Informatik und Wirtschaftsinformatik begeistern und gewinnen zu können.

Aus diesem Grund haben wir uns sehr gerne beteiligt. Dazu haben wir ein Interview mit vier unserer Studentinnen der Wirtschaftsinformatik und Informatik geführt: Leonie Prümm (Wirtschaftsinformatik) und Ella Pohl (Angewandte Informatik – System Engineering) befinden sich mitten in ihrem Bachelorstudium, während Jana Schmitz (Angewandte Informatik – System Engineering) und Judith Mittnacht (Wirtschaftsinformatik) den Bachelor bereits erfolgreich abgeschlossen und ihr Masterstudium begonnen haben.
